Nika Breithaupt alias Nika Son works as a musician, artist, film composer, curator and Dj after graduating in Fine Arts at HfbK Hamburg in 2012.

In her compostions, video- and soundworks she examines multi-sensory perception, its bounderies and interaction, but also forms of manipulation and illusion.

Influenced by Musique Concrète and the outer space of electronic music, she plays with modified and fragmented concrete sounds, interwoven with analog and digital synthesis, broken rhythms, voices and modulated tape. Sounds of various origin are translated into a very unusual musical language, as if one watches the audible.

Alongside her solo concerts, she creates radio pieces, video and sound installations, and has collaborated for many years with various companions, in projects such as Cwelle (formely C) or No Cue.
In her work as a soundartist for experimental film, she is among other responsible for the score and sound design of Helena Wittmann’s highly acclaimed films DRIFT and Human Flowers of Flesh. Most recently she scored the film Failed Emptiness, the latest feature by filmmaker and artist Mika Taanila.

Her last album To Eeyore was released in 2020 on Entr’acte, her new album will be out this spring on VIS, as will the soundtrack DRIFT on Futura Resistenza.

She has played at various international festivals such as Intonal, Meakusma, IFFR, Klub Katarakt, Nuits Sonores etc. and appeared on labels like Mmodemm, Kashual Plastik, TAL, First Terrace Records, Anti Ghost Moon Ray and her own imprint Noctui.
For over a decade she hosts regular art and music events at Golden Pudel Club in Hamburg with numerous international guests (Next Time, Noctuidae).

Since 2019, she co-curates the festival Papiripar together with Felix Kubin and Florian Bräunlich.

As a DJ (also under Nikae), her waywardly sound is marked by the outer space of electronic music, spanning from musique concrete, synth wave, acidic folk to broken beat, Industrial electro and technoid peripheries.
